Work lets me have my own identity without any attachments, a sense of individuality, solely based on who I am, what I am. Workplace is where I can use my skills, build new skills and strive to reach my potential. Its where I can experiment with myself. I have discovered my strengths and what I love doing. At the same time, it has shown me what I suck at, like being political and diplomatic! It has helped me push boundaries, explore my capabilities and surprise myself with what I can do!
The best thing I like about going to work is lunch table conversations! We discuss world problems, Indian history, fitness, US politics, technological trends and sometimes plain funny banter. Your colleagues make a great deal of difference in shaping your experience! There are also days when I have to drag myself out of the bed to go to work. But the steady money that falls into my bank account, the vacations I can take, the shopping I can do, the lifestyle we can provide to family – these are all the good side effects.
The biggest gain to me is fulfillment. The satisfaction of putting myself to some use. To see myself evolve from a demure, under-confident girl to a woman who leads teams, manages delivery and aspires for leadership positions.
